Dear Parents,
In honor of Earth Day we read, The Lorax, and other titles that taught about taking care of our planet. We learned about reduce, reuse & recycle, and enjoyed the opportunity to use our imaginations and create some great things out of "trash". Thanks to all who brought in recyclable treasures. We also sorted, as a class, through several examples of recyclable materials and figured out where to put each type of item. You can try this at home with your child, make 4 separate plastic, paper, aluminum and compost bins and allow him/her to sort your trash each day. This is fitting because next week we will share the books, Compost Stew and Tops and Bottoms and focus on planting and gardening. We did touch on composting and how helpful it is for the dirt in your garden to be fertilized. We did some Word Work today, as well. We read 2 Earth Day poems and the children got into 2 teams and had to sort through all the words used in the poems and put them in proper order in a sentence chart. What a fun activity! In your binders are several activities to do with the book, The Lorax, OR do an Earth Day project with your child and bring it in to show or tell the class about what you did in detail. Enjoy your week! We will have a last class celebration the week of May 4, will will have game day & you may all bring in snacks to share. Mrs. Elliott |
